ID CARD AND DEERS
UPDATE PROCEDURE
When it is time for a family member to renew an ID
Card, one of the following must be done:
1.
The sponsor comes in with the family member to sign
the application.
2.
The sponsor comes in before the family member,
completes and signs the paperwork. The family member can then come in any time within 90 days to renew the ID Card.
3.
The family member can renew the ID Card without the
sponsor's signature if that family member has a valid Power of Attorney
authorizing them to sign for the sponsor.
The ID Card Work center is located in the Soldier
Service Center, Building 5700, Room 160. Telephone numbers are
(334)255-1857/2437/9040. Call for hours of operation before you come to
Fort Rucker.
LOCATE THE ID CARD
OFFICE NEAREST YOU
For those of you not living close to a military
installation, you can locate the ID Card/DEERS office closest to you by going
on-line at
www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl/. You can enter town, state, or zip code and find the
nearest location with street, city, and phone number. There might be a National
Guard/Reserve site close to you for ID Card issue and DEERS updates.
RENEWING
ID CARDS WHEN UNABLE
TO TRAVEL
When an ID card holder is unable to travel to
the ID Card Office, renewal can take place via mail. An 8 X 10 photograph of
the recipient, notarized on the back as being a photo of the recipient, must be
mailed to the ID Card Office. Included must be a statement as to the reason
travel is not possible (such as a statement from the doctor), and the sponsor’s
information – name, SSN, address. A DD Form 1172 will be mailed back, must be
signed by the sponsor and notarized, and returned to the ID Card Office. The
card will be prepared and returned. Call your ID Card Office for full details
and instructions or email them at
